Every cycling club shop should include at least one hat. Members buy hats faster than any other accessory, they wear them year-round, and they double as a recruitment tool because the embroidered logo is visible whenever the member sits at a cafe or stands in the parking lot before a ride. Four hat styles cover most cycling clubs and embroidery is the standard customization across all of them.

Four hat styles for cycling clubs

1. Classic Rope Hat (Richardson)

Classic dad-hat silhouette with a rope detail across the brim. The default casual hat. Sells year-round.

2. Premium 5-Panel Baseball Hat (Otto Cap)

Slightly more structured, traditional baseball cap shape. Works for clubs whose members lean classic over trendy.

3. Mesh Snapback Trucker (Yupoong)

Mesh back, snapback closure. Popular with gravel and MTB clubs whose vibe leans casual and outdoor.

4. Cuffed Winter Beanie (Yupoong)

Acrylic knit, cuffed style. Winter add-on. Sells from October to February.

Start with the rope hat and the cuffed beanie. Add the snapback and the baseball cap if the club requests them.

Embroidery placement on hats

Standard placement is the front center, 2 to 3 inches wide. Keep the design simple: club logo, club initials, or club wordmark. Avoid intricate detail. Embroidery resolution drops below the level needed for fine detail at small scales.

Optional second placement is the back of the hat (above the snapback closure) for a small "EST [year]" or club initials.

Hats carry slightly lower markup than shirts but they are the highest-frequency reorder in most shops. Members lose hats, replace them, and buy multiple colors over time.

Volume hat orders for fondos and events

Clubs that host an annual fondo or charity ride often include a custom hat in the registration package. No minimum order means a 50-rider fondo and a 300-rider fondo both work without bulk-ordering. Each rider gets a hat in their preferred style (some shops let riders choose between two), and the shop fulfills automatically.

Build the hat cost into the registration fee. A $30 hat in the fee covers production and ships free to each rider's door.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best hat style for a cycling club?

The classic rope hat for everyday wear and the cuffed winter beanie for cold months. Add a mesh snapback for gravel or MTB clubs and a 5-panel baseball cap if members lean classic.

Should we embroider or print our cycling club hat?

Embroider. Hats are a textured fabric and embroidery is the convention. Screen printing on hats does not hold up the same way.

Can we include a hat in our fondo registration package?

Yes. No minimum order. Each rider gets the hat in their chosen style and color. The hat cost goes into the registration fee.

What sizes do cycling club hats come in?

Most rope hats, snapbacks, and beanies are one-size adjustable. Some 5-panel baseball caps come in fitted sizes. The shop displays available sizes per hat.
